I am a relatively new Bernadette fan (within the past few years) and I would like to see some of her "older" movies but am not sure which ones would be the best to see. I've only seen her in Annie and would like to see some others. Could people please recommend some of her movies for me to watch?
Thanks!

Into the Woods and A Sunday in the Park With George are not movies but musicals on tape. If you can get these they are two of my faves. The Jerk and Pennies from Heaven, both with Steve Martin are great. Pink Cadillac, though a stupid movie, has some of the best Bernadette moments in them. I would also reccomend The Last Best Year with Mary Tyler Moore. Any of her cast albums and personal recordings are great for you to find as well.

Bump it with a trumpet!

I love The Jerk! Bernadette is so adorable in that movie. Also you have such a ridiculous comedy and she STILL manages to put this insane heart and emotion into it. It's just a fun movie and a fun role for her, I think.

Let's see.. Lots of fabulous suggestions. I'll just add my 2 cents.

Agreed about Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park. Into the Woods is a must-see. It just is. A very enjoyable, funny musical. Sunday in the Park is amazing, but it's a very different, original sort of dramatic musical. Sunday is often is enjoyed more by people who love literary-type musicals. The best place to get either of the above musicals is at Barnes and Nobles. They seem to carry a lot of DVDs on the arts.

Pink Cadillac is worth renting once, if only because it's got one of the best Bernadette moments (her character's monologue) I've seen.

AHHHHH.... Silent Movie. Love it. A great comedy. Worth renting for Bernadette, but also for the fact that it is hysterical once you get used to the fact that...well, nobody talks.

The Jerk is one of my favorite Bernadette comedies because the movie so beautifully demonstrates why she is such a fabulous comedic actress. Plus, she and Steve Martin work so well together. I hope that they someday work together again.

One of my favorite lines in that movie:

"Oh, I don't care about the money, Navin. Just all the stuuuuuuuffffff..."

(The way she says "stuff" is priceless.)

Bobbie's Girl was the movie she did for Showtime, and I really enjoyed it. She also got an emmy nomination for it.

I've yet to see Pennies From Heaven, but Bernadette got a Golden Globe for it, so that's probably another good one.

Ah, Annie. You've seen that one already, but I love it. How can you go wrong with Bernadette, Carol Burnett, and Tim Curry?

Lily (to Miss Hannigan): Just what, exactly, are you incinerating?

Lily (to Miss Hannigan): Name's Lily St. Regis. After the hotel.
Miss Hannigan: Right.
Rooster: Come on, sis, just a few bucks.
Miss Hannigan: Not even a nickel for the subway.
Rooster: Aw, sis --
Miss Hannigan: So why don't you do me a favor, and you and your dumb hotel here hit the road.
Lily (to Rooster): You and her got the same mother?

(I love the way Bernadette says that last line. Very trashy Brooklyn, circa 1920. It's perfect.)

***************
Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.

I love in The Jerk when Navin says, "I'm gonna bounce back, and when I do, I'm gonna buy you a diamond so big it's gonna make you puke!" and then Bernadette yells, "I DON'T WANNA PUUUKEE!!" haha. The "stuuuuuff" line is great too. And I also love when she does her knife throwing.

I think the knifethrowing thing is really my favorite scene in the whole movie. "1...2...3! 456!" Or, "I just heard a song on the radio that reminded me of the way we were!" "What was it?" "The Way We Were!" I could probably quote that whole movie from start to finish. Great stuuuuf!

I love her count-off in the knife scene too. It's just so hilarious. The way we were is funny too! I forgot about that! Haha what about the snail scene?

My desktop is a collage of different shots of her in the snail scene! It's one of my faves but you can't exactly quote it unless you say *squeak*

I was trying to think of how to translate the noise into quoting but it's just impossible

One correction, "UCF", only because its so funny. In Annie when Bernadette says her she was named after the hotel, Miss Hannigan, says "Room Service". LOL

LOL, moljul!! OHHH, I knew I was forgetting something! My dialogue quoting seems to suck today.

The one scene I wanted to quote from (from The Jerk) is the one where Marie and Navin are sitting in the truck (Navin's "house") eating pizza in a cup, and Navin says something like, "I don't want to be too forward but, can I ask you if...next time you're making love with your boyfriend, can you think of me?" And Marie comes back with, "And when you're making love with your girlfriend, would you think of me?" And it ends with something like Marie saying, "Or maybe I could make love to your girlfriend and you could make love to my boyfriend and we can think of each other." It's so ridiculously funny because the both of them look so totally serious, and I wish I could remember what the exact wording of the dialogue was.... ArgghHH!

The other one I love is the knife scene everyone keeps mentioning. It's the line when she tells Navin she's been taking knife throwing because he told her to take really expensive useless lessons. I just love the way she says it (and the countdown is hysterical.)

Okay... one more from The Jerk:

Marie's working in the salon after she's left Navin, and she puts an "age-minimizing" mask on a really old guy, and walks away. Then Navin, who's been watching, pays the guy to leave the chair so he can put the mask on his face and surprise Marie. Marie takes the mask off and looks totally stunned (but not because she immediately recognizes Navin), and says in this really funny voice, "Jeez, this stuff really works." Hee.

Regis: And look at all this hair. My God. That's a lot of hair. Look at this. How does hair get this way?
Bernadette: Um.. it sort of grew out of my head like this.

the pizza quote goes like this...
Navin: "...now be totally honest, you do have a boyfriend dont you?"
Marie: "kind of"
Navin: "i know this is our first date, but do you think the next time you make love to your boyfriend, you could think of me?
Marie: "well, i haven't made love to him yet."
Navin: "thats too bad. do you think its possible that someday, you could make love with me and think of him?"
Marie: "who knows? maybe you and he could make love and you could think of me."
Navin: "i'd just be happy to be in there somewhere."

i LOVE this movie!!! my friends and i quote it ALL the time!!!
